What was the conflict? What was the extent of the prejudice and discrimination?
The reason why the the CUP (these guys are Turkish, but the reason I'm putting this here it will be mentioned later) doing the entire Armenian Genocide thing was that the CUP wanted to erase the entire Armenian race, or at least all of it they could. The reason why they wanted to get rid of the Armenians, I have not found... yet. If I do find the reason why they did it, I will replace with this small sentence. Although, if I had to make an assumption or two, I would say that it was either because of political power, or because the CUP had a grudge with the Armenians. Now, to answer what actually happened to the Armenians during the Armenian Genocide was pretty dang horrible. People were killed by soldiers publicly in town squares, marched and rode trains to the desert to die in various different ways that I won't explain because the list is to long, sent to live on the streets and were unable to even get every day things, and so much more. So long story cut short, the CUP REALLY didn't like the Armenians for some reason. In fact, the Turkish schools don't even teach about the Armenian Genocide, or if they do, it would be in only in a few sentences. I guess no one really likes to talk about in Turkey (Balakian, Peter.
